Who We Are

Origins

How Touched by Cancer began

After my journey from Breast Cancer, I found it really helpful to be able to chat with other ladies, who had been on the same journey. I picked up tips and ways of navigating life in a whole new different way. Then we moved and I lost that sense of security with them.

We moved to Frinton, where I saw an advert for a Breast Cancer group. Joining it helped me get to integrate into the new community, form new friendships and find a little side job. Getting inspiration from the lovely lady who runs it, I felt I personally wanted to take a step into something I felt would cover a lot more people and not just Breast Cancer.

I felt anyone, female and male who had gone on a cancer journey, still is and their carer’s, partner’s etc might benefit to be in a group environment to chat. Since Covid 19 many places have closed down and others have long waiting lists. So having a safe place within the community, would be a nice start.

In life we all face storms. Sometimes, the best gift you can offer someone is your company — not advice, not opinions, just you. Be a safe place when the winds are strong and their umbrella when the rain feels unending.

At The Women’s Institute, I felt we could stand together, listen and wait until they feel the sun is shining again.
